Description:
Welcome to Waves, the new state of the art leisure centre in Whitley Bay. The £6m transformation invested in Waves forms part of the council's £64m regeneration programme for Whitley Bay and £30m investment in sports and leisure facilities across the borough.
What's in a name?
The previous Whitley Bay leisure pool was famous for its waves - and that proved to be the inspiration for its new name.
Ten-year-old Owen Greenwell, a pupil at Monkseaton Middle School, made the suggestion when he entered a North Tyneside Council competition to find a new name for the pool.
Owen found out he had won when North Tyneside's elected mayor John Harrison paid a surprise visit to his school.
Please see website or contact Waves for further information.
