Nestling in the heart of Gateshead’s urban centre is Saltwell Park, one of the borough’s hidden gems. Step through the gates and enter a different world. This enchanting park has cast its spell on visitors since 1876, and is still captivating visitors today. The park has over two million visitors each year.

Steeped in history, Saltwell Park is also a great place to go with the family or for a stroll in the immense, beautiful and peaceful gardens – truly a must for family entertainment.

Known as the ‘People’s Park’, Saltwell Park is at the centre of Gateshead’s community, encompassing 55 acres of landscape – with ornamental and woodland gardens, boating lake, sports facilities, bowling greens, play areas, animal house, maze, education centre and the beautiful Victorian Saltwell Towers.

Saltwell Park is located directly behind and is signposted from the A167. The park can be accessed by pedestrians only from East Park Road, West Park Road, Saltwell Road South, Saltwell View and Joicey Road. The car and coach park is accessed from Durham Road (A167) via Joicey Road.
