Description:
Acting Up provides quality Performing Arts education that is complementary to, yet indepentant of school studies. Whilst we are aware that some pupils will wish to pursue a career in Performing Arts in which we support and encourage, our primary concern is to harvest the potential of every child. Our success is evidenced by the significant improvement in confidence, articulation, poise, creativity and communication that Acting Up pupils typically display.
Training is offered to children and young adults from 2 to 18 years, pupils can begin Acting Up in our Early Stages class that is extremely popular and is made up of children aged 2 to 4 years and takes place over a 2-hour period. During this time pupils get a little taster of Dance, Drama and Music. When pupils reach the age of 5 then study Dance, Drama and Music in separate subject areas, over a 3-hour period.
As an extra curricular activity we are aware that pupils are giving us their free time. Therefore our aim is for pupils to have fun and become open to learning, this is achieved through our 3 main core subjects.
Drama is a fundamental element of the Performing Arts. Pupils will participate in all aspects of dramatic techniques such as improvisation, character development, tableau, crosscutting, hot seating, forum theatre, emotional content and lots more.
Pupils are encouraged to maximise the potential of their voice, through various techniques that are studied, these will include, breathing and control exercises, use of diaphragm, pitch and tone. Various styles of music are studied, from classical through to pop with pupils experiencing both solo and group performance work.
Through out the course of the term pupils will study various styles of dance that will include Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Stage and Contemporary dance. The main aim of the workshops is to give pupil’s greater control and physical awareness.
Class sizes are restricted to no more than 15 pupils per group, with one qualified teacher and a classroom assistant to give extra support to pupils. The teacher pupil ratio is one of the key elements in Acting Up’s success.
Our qualified and experienced teaching staff recognises that all pupils are unique individuals and all learn in different ways, at different paces and to different levels. These factors are considered in our teaching, therefore we are able to achieve our main aim to, 'develop confidence and raise self - esteem in young people'
Whilst the emphasis is on developing confidence and raising self-esteem, many pupils have become accomplishes performers and have taken on many professional Theatre, TV and radio leading roles
